On 18 August 2025, Belum Rainforest Resort (BRR) marked a historic milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Through this collaboration, TNB has chosen BRR as the site for its Alternative Emergency Control Centre (AECC), recognizing Pulau Banding’s unique strength as a safe and stable location. Standing about 245 meters above sea level, BRR offers natural protection against major floods, making it an ideal site to ensure continuity and swift response in times of crisis. This decision not only strengthens operational readiness in Hulu Perak but also underscores the value of strategic partnerships in safeguarding communities and infrastructure.

For BRR, this partnership carries a more profound meaning rooted in experience. The devastating floods of 2014 reminded us of the importance of resilience and quick action, when the resort turned adversity into an opportunity to serve by delivering essential aid to affected Orang Asli villages. Today, guided by the vision of our late founder, Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal, BRR continues its mission as more than just a 4-star resort—it is a model of sustainable development and conservation. This collaboration with TNB is a clear step towards fulfilling that legacy: combining eco-tourism with national energy security, ensuring both progress and preservation move forward hand in hand.
“Through this MOU, EMKAY and TNB are committed to act swiftly and decisively, ensuring our operations is met with resilience and unity.” – Dato’ Hjh Fazwinna Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal
