Inspired by the timeless teachings of her late father, the Founder of the EMKAY Group, Allahyarham Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal, - Dato’ Hjh. Fazwinna reflects on five values that continue to guide her — in life, in leadership, and in legacy. The paper was presented to the Officer of the Strategic Communication Office, UiTM, Shah Alam, at Belum Rainforest Resort.
In every chapter of my journey, I carry the wisdom of my late father, Allahyarham Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal. His words, actions, and values remain my compass — guiding me through leadership, family, and faith.

Here are five timeless lessons that have shaped not only who I am, but also how I lead the EMKAY Group today.
1️⃣ The Love of a Family
“Anyone can say ‘I love you’. Real love is shown through patience, effort, sacrifice, and perseverance.”
True love is not about words, but actions. My father taught me that love means showing up — in good times and in difficult ones. Family is our first school of values, where patience and kindness are learned. In the same way, at work, our colleagues are our extended family. When we support each other sincerely, we create trust — and trust is the foundation of every strong team.
2️⃣ Discipline Beats Motivation
Motivation may spark you, but discipline sustains you. My father’s success was not built overnight. It was the result of years of small, consistent habits — the kind done with discipline even when no one was watching.
He used to remind us that motivation can fade, but discipline keeps you steady. So, whatever your role, be consistent. Do the small things well and do them every day.
3️⃣ Failure Is Not the End
“Failure is not an option,” he used to say — and what he meant was simple: failure is not the end.
We all stumble, but failure is part of growth. It teaches us to anticipate problems, to be creative, and to build resilience. The only real failure is when we stop trying. As long as we keep learning, improving, and persevering, we are still moving forward.
4️⃣ Happiness Is Simple
To my father, happiness was never about wealth or status. It was about having good health, peace with yourself, peace with Allah, and being surrounded by love. When you have those things, everything else is secondary.
True happiness is when you know your purpose, when you live with sincerity, and when you find joy in simplicity. Everything else is just noise.
5️⃣ Legacy Is About Values, Not Wealth
“Do your work even when no one is watching.”
This was one of his most powerful lessons — integrity and sincerity define who we are. Legacy, to my father, was not measured in money or buildings, but in the values, we leave behind.
His words and example are the compass that continue to guide me, and I hope they will inspire others to build their own legacy of integrity, compassion, and perseverance.
