He left Shah Alam Properties to venture out as an entrepreneur, setting up what became the EMKAY Group of Companies. Soon after, the Selangor State Government awarded EMKAY its first major breakthrough project – the development of a new township consisting of residential and commercial units in Sg Buloh. Bandar Baru Sg Buloh, a RM200 million project, hailed as ‘the first ever large-scale privatized property development scheme’ in the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan. His efforts have led to him being acknowledged by being conferred numerous awards and accolades.

Tan Sri has had vast experience in all facets of property development. What started as the developer for the masses which won him the accolade “The King of Affordable Homes” progressed into high-end apartments and condominiums, commercial and retail developments, and IT enterprise buildings. His latest venture, the Pulau Banding Development project, is a realization of his passion into environmental protection and conservation.
Tan Sri’s social responsibility is seen and felt through the development of three hemodialysis centres in rural areas: Wan Nong Dialysis Centre (Kampung Kubu Gajah, Perak); Felina Dialysis Center (Banting, Selangor); and one in Alor Setar, Kedah, which was donated to the Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah. As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan EMKAY (EMKAY Foundation), Tan Sri has also built numerous suraus, educational institutions and other community centers along with the active sponsorship and monitoring of the EMKAY Youth Sports Excellence Programme.

Another effort by Tan Sri is the adoption of Kampung Selamat, a rural village in Perak, bordering Bukit Merah Laketown Resort. Tan Sri’s main aim in adopting this quaint village is to elevate their standard of living through the provision of educational facilities, training programmes and job opportunities.
Tan Sri is also actively involved in the protection and rehabilitation of the endangered orang utan and the preservation of wildlife, flora and fauna. The results of this passion can clearly be seen at the EcoPark and the Orang Utan Island, which forms part of the Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.
With his foresight for sustainable development, Tan Sri is also the initiator behind the formulation of the Pulau Banding Charter, a set of self-imposed guidelines derived from an interaction with NGOs and other interested parties for the development of Pulau Banding, Perak. This is in line with his passion to bring forth change in attitude and to stimulate awareness in the conservation and preservation of the environment.
Tan Sri’s vision and passion will continue to lead the EMKAY Group of Companies to greater heights in all areas of development as well as in the Group’s corporate social responsibility practices.
